I’d like to make something very clear. I do NOT have a problem with Byler. You might disagree and that’s fine but I think the ship is one sided attraction. That’s MY opinion.
My problem is with everyone who is trying to manipulate and twist events in the show to feed their own Byler fancies. It’s not only annoying and ignorant but sometimes harmful.
Tumblr is a place that seems to attract people who have difficulties in their personal lives. That doesn’t apply to everyone but for a lot of people it does.
-people throwing accusations of homophobia. I don’t need to explain this one, It doesn’t go amiss
-People being ebleist (not always intentionally). Eleven has disability. You can say she’s ‘just’ traumatised and uneducated but it’s clearly had a profound impact on many areas in life. Trauma itself can cause that. ‘A disability is any condition of the body or mind (impairment) that makes it more difficult for the person with the condition to do certain activities (activity limitation) and interact with the world around them (participation restrictions).’
-Disregarding and invalidating trauma and grief. “She lies to him because she doesn’t feel like she can be herself around him” “he can’t say he loves her because he actually loves Will” “she didn’t look happy when he confessed his feeling to her because she realised she didn’t love him like that” “Mike didn’t look happy when she said I love you too” Not everything is related directly to their relationships, Im sorry but it’s not. How people behave and respond to situations often goes deeper than what they’re actually arguing over that minute and these characters and their past go wayyy deeper than that. You can disagree but you don’t have to twist everything and anything to make it about Byler.
-No platforming. It’s dangerous. Don’t refuse to engage in a balanced debate because it crushes your Byler fantasies (same goes for Mileven). Sharing opinions and debating them is how we learn, but do them in a way that is respectful and sticks to facts. Not made up facts, if it’s not confirmed then ‘I think’ or ‘from my opinion’ are appropriate to use before sharing. Those are opinions, fell free to share opinions but don’t state them as fact.
-Open lack of compassion. Some of you love to criticise Eleven because she gets in the way of Byler. You can dislike her but at least try to understand her feelings and behaviour. Again, stop invalidating. She’s been severely abused and neglected her entire life, Im sorry if you find her “annoying” or “a bad girlfriend” but grow up
If you haven’t realised by now this post itself goes deeper than Byler and Mileven. It’s about respect. People like to use their fandoms as an escape and a coping strategy. Don’t call people homophobic for sharing an opposing opinion. How do you think child abuse victims or people with autism or learning difficulty or dealing with grief feel when coming across anti-Mileven post that invalidate Elevens issues or use them against her to further their own ideology. The lack of compassion and understanding then the refusal to educate themselves. All for what, to promote a freaking Tv show couple??
We grow attachments to fictional characters often because we can relate to them on a personal level. What you say about a fictional character can make someone feel bad about themselves. It can cause offence to people who love somebody who they think are similar to the fictional character.
We all have different opinions and fell free to share them, it’s how we learn and grow as people, but be considerate and educate yourselves first instead of spreading ignorance. And most importantly, STOP using these things for the purpose of promoting a freaking relationship between fictional characters. For example, saying El can’t understand romantic relationships and isn’t ready for one. If you believe that that’s fine and I respect it. However, it is completely irrelevant to Byler so don’t use it and point it out solely to feed your own fancies.
“Noah knocks it out of the park with his performance… Noah is fantastic. I love seeing him in this role — one like we have never seen him do before. His character is very weird, mysterious, and even a little badass. He is easily the standout actor of the film…I love the creepiness of Noah and the story…”-mamasgeeky.
“As the young and privileged student, Jackson, we have Noah Schnapp. Yes, little Will Byers from Stranger Things has grown into a young man. And yet, that very same heart and pain Noah Schnapp taps into so perfectly in Stranger Things is exactly what also makes Jackson such an intriguing character. For the record, except for Jackson looking familiar, I did not think of Will Byers at all. For Noah Schnapp, this is a strong break-out role of a more adult (or young adult) variety.” -heavenofhorror.
“Noah Schnapp Gets Passing Grade As A Rich Student With A Dangerous Mind… Noah Schnapp is really good here as Jackson. The ease that he can shift from timid to hostile is scary, and Jackson is best when turning his seeming innocence into a weapon to be aimed at others.” -punchdrunkscritics
“The Tutor is a fitting next step for Schnapp. After playing the “cute kid” act early on in Stranger Things and again in the 2020 indie drama Abe, he deserves this opportunity to use his charms for a more mature and malicious character
. (Alas, he still can’t catch a break from the cringe-worthy haircuts. Jackson’s slicked-down comb-over is only slightly better than theWill Byers bowl cut.)Both Schnapp and Hedlund show a great range of emotions, from calm and vulnerable to enraged and borderline psychotic, to the point where you can sympathize with either character. In fact, Schnapp’s portrayal of Jackson is so manipulative and tense that he makes Ethan look and sound like an unreliable narrator in his own story. Schnapp has undoubtedly earned the praise for his convincing performance alongside his on-screen creepy cousin Gavin (Jonny Weston)”-filmobsessive

TAEGYU - My Metrics.
For those that have no interest in Taegyu at all or my opinion on popular ships you might want to read my next posts instead, proper Sookai content is around the corner, however they are mentioned in this post.
So my goal is to write a bit of an analysis on Taegyu. I will be covering:
A) Taegyu, a synopsis and why I think that they are so popular in the fandom.
B) My personal thoughts on Taegyu and their dynamic
C) My opinion on whether or not they are ‘real’ for me
Lets get started!!
A) Taegyu, a synopsis:
For those MOA who have been living under a rock, Taegyu are always the first or second most popular ship within the TXT fandom, depending on what social media site you are on. I think that every MOA is aware of their popularity and their chemistry.
To very briefly and somewhat inadequately sum up their personalities I would say this: Tae has a strong mindset, he’s logical with his thinking, having a firm belief system of the world and why things are the way that they are. He also has a somewhat relaxed yet determined vibe within his personality. Tae is known for being confident, considerate, funny and no nonsense. He of course has an adorable side (as everyone has dynamic and broad personalities) but we don’t see it much with gyu specifically, he’s much more likely to cling to a different member usually.
Gyu also has a strong mindset but he is much more of a dreamer, he asks metaphorical questions of life, exploring possibilities instead of answers. Gyu also has a determined vibe within his personality but at times is less relaxed and shows his anxieties more, we know that he has significant issues sleeping and expects A LOT of himself and his members (this can result in gyu seeming to have two personalities at times, quiet or loud but that’s more a result of his insomnia and I would say that most of the time on official filmed content like variety shows he makes the effort to be loud and interesting). Gyu is mostly known in the fandom as being confident, loud, funny and is a brat haha
As you can imagine this dynamic is GOLD for chemistry. They bounce off each other so well: loud vs relaxed, logical vs dreamer, bratty vs no nonsense, also funny with funny and confident with confident. Taegyu is the stuff that fan fics are made of!! And this is without even mentioning a switched Hyung/dongsang dynamic and strength kink stuff that has people weak at the knees (
me).
I think that what really bass-boosts this relationship is that core of their dynamic people are aware that despite their differences and motives that both tae and gyu really do care for each other. They have so many moments of them truly caring for each other in the sweetest ways possible, like Tae saying that he cares about Gyus chance to talk and gyu stopping tae from itching his eczema. Then there’s the confusing affection/fan service that we get from these two. What the hell was this vlive??
It’s every shippers dream to have their ship act like this on camera….and yet its not a reliable pattern of behaviour, you get it once and then BOOM gone.
So with all of this said you can see why the fans go crazy for them. Their perfect chemistry and juxtaposing personalities are a perfect combo, an interesting romance. It is because of this that Taegyu fan media exploded. Taegyu have a massive amount of Fan fics,Tik toks, twitter edits, au’s, YouTube videos etc.
Now look I’m not gonna go into every and all examples of their moments and dynamic cause I would be here forever but I think that I have given enough info to explain what they are like and why they are considered popular. Now onto my thoughts!!
B) My opinion on Taegyu and their fandom
I really REALLY like Taegyu as a ship, I totally understand the hype, 100%. That being said I do need to note that I also really like Beomjun as a ship…in fact Beomgyu has such an interesting personality, he’s so vibrant and complex that he suits ‘shipping’ in general. Taegyu have chemistry and tension in the best possible way. When they are interacting, especially on vlive I can’t look away. I am pretty sure that they are genuine friends too. I really like Taegyu fan fics, they are so interesting to read as the authors can emphasize certain aspects of their personalities to make some super interesting fics.
Their fandom seems great too, I haven’t had much to do with them but those that love taegyu appear to be funny, relaxed and don’t seem to take taegyu too seriously.
C) My opinion on whether or not I think that they are real
God I wish that I had enough evidence to say that I think Taegyu are real, but alas, I don’t. I obviously need to back up that statement with some evidence! I wrote a detailed post on why I think that Sookai are real. One of my biggest indicators for where’re or not a ship is real or if I think that it’s just good friends with a healthy splash of fan service (and make no mistake, Taegyu are a fanservice city) is how much time they spend together when they are alone. Now we have some evidence that taegyu spend at least a little time together alone, they have said they they went to a haunted house together but I don’t know when that was or if they were filming for TO DO etc. they have also said that they work out together but Tae said he’s proud of Gyu cause he also goes alone. We see Tae and Gyu together for the new talk x together series in the gym so I’m not sure if they were just referring to filming that or not. I have seen gyu ask tae if he wanted to go eat together and he refused. I haven’t seen much about them eating together or heard much of them spending that much time together at the dorms, in fact, gyu said that at the dorms he has been hanging out with the staff playing games with them. There are lots of other examples and things I have noticed but I think that I have given enough evidence to make my point while avoiding this just becoming a massive list. Now this isn’t to say that they don’t hang out, maybe they do. But it would be odd to not show MOA lots of this stuff when they are pretty heavy on the fanservice (the recent universe radio anyone? Tae walking into Gyu’s vlive and him screaming Dad at him?!). Taegyu are also one of the most popular ships in TXT and they are fully aware and play into that a fair bit. Also with sookai next to them they really don’t need to worry about boundaries too much from the company etc so blaming their actions on being ‘silenced’ by the company is ridiculous.
Now take all of this with a grain of salt, I’m no expert on Taegyu as I am a solid Sookaist so I would be very open to other evidence and information. Speaking of being a sookaist some might ask, ‘well if you like taegyu so much, why is your ult sookai?’ Well don’t misunderstand me. I like the fantasy of Taegyu (and beomjun!) but I LOVE the reality of sookai. Sookai are real, not because they fulfill shipping fantasies (they don’t, they are actually quite boring in that regard, two similar friends who get along….wow that’s not a storyline to win a Oscar with) but because they have proven to us CONSISTENTLY that they share a strong close bond with each other, and by my metrics I believe them to be pretty inseparable on and off screen. We have been told by soobin himself by his own free will that he loves Kai more than anybody else, and it may not be a fiery exciting romance tale but to me, it’s perfect.
Thank you so much to anyone that read this whole thing! I know that it would be hard if you believe in taegyu because my beliefs are different from yours and hard if you are a sookaist to read something you’re not interested in. Whoever this long ass piece of writing suited, THANK YOU for coming to my ted talk.
I like the show version of Chishiya, and here’s why.
I love manga!Chishiya, but he always felt pretty one-dimensional to me. His backstory is one of parental neglect, similar to Arisu. Chishiya basically fails to develop a sense of empathy (unlike Arisu, who just has ye olde Main Character Syndrome). He decides to enter med school because he thinks that a profession where he saves lives might actually help him grow a Give-a-Shitter. Spoiler: it doesn’t.
Manga!Chishiya is an emotional flat line. He doesn’t care about other characters because he can’t. I remember thinking that he had a lot of the same traits as a serial killer. He viewed the world through nothing but intellect, and other people were either nonexistent or pawns to be used to further his own ends. Even the idea that maybe being responsible for the lives of others will help him grow some empathy is a chilling one.
That’s cool. I actually really like those kinds of characters. I also think there are enough characters like that in the story. Characters who you look at and think, “Okay, yes, you are terrible.” The big problem is that it makes his weird self-sacrifice with Usagi absolutely senseless. Like, it came out of nowhere. There wasn’t any sort of satisfying build-up where I felt like, “Okay, yeah, this makes sense.”
His updated backstory adds a dimension that wasn’t present in the manga version. Rather than simply lacking empathy for other people, you can actually see the moment in which he makes the conscious decision to turn it off. He has this light bulb moment where he realizes that the world is a cruel and unfair place. He realizes that allowing himself to feel for other people is only going to hurt him in the end because he’s powerless to change the systems that are actively harming them. It’s better to protect himself and survive.
Chishiya is a selfish character, but the idea that his selfishness stems out of a desire to protect himself from pain gives his character some actual depth that was always missing for me. It also makes the King of Diamonds game a lot more meaningful. Kuzuryu went through the same exact thing, but instead of turning off his feelings, he paralyzed himself with a moral dilemma. Where Chishiya chose to treat all human life as equally worthless, Kuzuryu couldn’t stop looking for some value to assign, whether that was to ease his conscience or to inform a sense of justice he was desperately trying to find.
I really, really like how that dichotomy played out.
I also think it’s interesting that Chishiya feels a lot more psychological in the show. He’s clearly highly intelligent in both the manga and the show, and maybe it’s just Murakami’s performance, but there’s something more sinister to him. He’s clearly developed some sort of friendly relationship with Kuina. He displays an ability to be playful and seems to genuinely be extending an offer of friendship to Arisu (up until he sells him out for one corn chip). Seeing how he can make these connections that feel genuine to the people involved (unlike his manga self who is pretty universally despised) and still be willing to fuck those people over for his own survival makes him feel a lot more menacing to me.
This ability to flawlessly manipulate and betray also means he has a deep understanding of human emotion, which is illogical by nature. In the manga, Chishiya says outright that he isn’t suited for Hearts games, but show!Chishiya feels tailor-made for them.
It’s also interesting that in the manga, he seems to get harsher and more isolated. By contrast, in the show, he feels to me like he softens episode by episode. It really struck me in the Jack of Hearts game when he said something about his partner dying because he was too kind. On the surface, you could take it as a typical judgy Chishiya comment, but there actually appeared to be a glimmer of sadness, or envy, or regret. Or all of the above. Or maybe it’s just Murakami Nijiro’s face that made me think that. Either way, I think it was smart of the showrunners to throw him in that game.
In the end, the King of Diamonds game pushes him to the realization that he really is envious of people who have the ability to be kind. He’s envious of people who can make the selfless choice. And it’s not because he can’t be. It’s because he’s closed himself off to the vulnerability that allows a person to make that kind of decision. You can’t truly save others if you’re always protecting yourself.
So, he saves Usagi to try to become that person. And I don’t feel it was out of character at all.

Promise, if we meet again, that we’ll be friends.
